Things to Consider

Golden retrievers live on an average of 10 to 12 years of age and generally have good health!  Most will enjoy a long happy life.  Exercise and tender loving care are something to also consider for them.  They like to be groomed often and will accept any attention that you will give them especially petting.  Most love the water to play in and love to go swimming. But most of all their biggest joy is in retrieving anything that you will throw for them.

Although puppies are very cute you need to consider these items before you decide to purchase your golden.  You need to consider them very seriously:

  • A golden puppy becomes approximately a 12 year commitment

  • Patience and Commitment in training

  • Daily care

  • A safe place while you are away from home

  • What and how to handle a puppy when they chew

  • Recommend basic obedience training

  • Grooming

  •

Standards of the breed set by AKC:

Standard weight=Males 65-75 pounds

Standard height = Males 23-24 inches

Standard weight = Females 55-65 pounds

Standard height = Females 21 1/2 to 22 1/2 inches
